Open Research Center Co-funded by LazioInnova

AMOI – Advanced Materials Open Infrastructure is Avio’s new research infrastructure dedicated to the development of advanced technologies for next-generation materials and manufacturing processes.

The center will be located in Colleferro, within a redeveloped industrial area, and will represent the first Open Research Infrastructure in Lazio specialized in the aerospace sector.

AMOI aims to provide the industrial and scientific community with highly specialized expertise, equipment, and services, fostering the development of Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) and promoting innovation for the benefit of the entire region.

AMOI will focus on the study of metallic materials intended for critical applications, with particular attention to improving surface properties, resistance under extreme conditions, and material functionalization. Activities will include advanced characterization, innovative surface treatments, and the development of solutions to enhance performance, durability, and sustainability.

The center will support the entire development cycle of new aerospace components – from design to manufacturing – ensuring compliance with strict aerospace qualification standards. A significant part of its activities will concern additive manufacturing, using cutting-edge technologies for the production and optimization of prototypes and functional components.

AMOI will be a reference point for companies, universities, and research institutions, fostering:

  • scientific and technological collaboration
  • the joint development of projects
  • technology transfer to SMEs
  • the enhancement of human capital through an innovative research environment

With an investment of €5.7 million and public funding of €2.6 million, the infrastructure will open in 2027 and will represent an important driver of innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability for the entire national aerospace sector.
