Record budget for Italy at ESA Ministerial Council more than €700M of new contracts expected starting from 2023

Rome, 28 November 2022 – The Ministerial Council of ESA Member States took place in Paris on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 November, allocating budgets for space research and development programs for the three-year period 2023-2025.


Overall, the European space budget rose 17 percent over the previous three-year period to €16.9 bn, the largest in ESA's history.

Flight VV22 postponement

Due to a defective equipment that needs to be replaced on the launcher, Flight VV22 –initially scheduled for November 24, from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana– is being postponed.

The Vega C launch vehicle and the two Pléiades Neo satellites are in safe conditions.

A new launch date, in December, will be shared as soon as possible.

Vega C successfully completed its maiden flight

Kourou (French Guiana), 13 July 2022 – The Vega C rocket has completed its inaugural flight, placing the main payload LARES-2 – a scientific mission of the Italian Space Agency ASI – into its planned orbit. Six additional research CubeSats from France, Italy and Slovenia flew as secondary payloads.

Vega C selected to launch the European Sentinel 1C satellite

Rome, 08 April 2022 – The new European launcher Vega C, developed by Avio, has been selected by the European Commission and the European Space Agency to launch, in the first half of 2023, the Sentinel 1C satellite for Earth observation through synthetic aperture radar technology. The satellite, which will be positioned in a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 690 kilometers, will be added to the already operational Sentinel 1A and 1B. The satellite will have environmental monitoring and security applications.

Rome, 25 March 2022 – In relation to recent articles appeared on the press concerning the potential impacts of the on-going Ukranian conflict on the operations of the Vega launcher, Avio confirms that at present no specific impacts on Vega and Vega C continuity of operations are foreseen in the medium term.
