Europropulsion

EUROPROPULSION

Europropulsion S.A. Is a company founded in 1986 by Avio and French Safran to ensure cooperation between France and Italy on the European launchers Ariane and Vega. Today che company is equally controlled by Avio and ASL – Airbus Safran Launchers (the joint venture between Airbus and Safran). The company has the goal to control the development of big solid rocket motors for space launchers, in the frame of programs carried on under the ESA umbrella and based on financial contributions by the Italian and French governments. Thanks to the resources and competences of Avio and ASL, Europropulsion ensures the coordination of activities and final assembly of the solid propellant motors for Ariane 5 and of the P80, the first stage SRM of the Vega launcher. Within the above mentioned programs, Europropulsion guarantees respect of ESA’s research and technology programs ARTA and LEAP. According to the decision by the ESA 2014 Ministerial Conference, Europropulsion is responsible for the development of the new SRM P120C. This motor will be common to the launchers Ariane 6 (ASL Prime Contractor) and Vega (Avio Prime Contractor).
